For a Future Without Cancer

23,000 km. 41 countries. 20+ months

One cyclist

Forty-one countries

A continent of stories

On 31 May 2026, Agis Apostolopoulos left London to begin a 23,000 kilometre cycling expedition across 41 European countries.

Across Europe, Agis is cycling through towns, villages and capital cities, meeting local people, documenting their stories, and opening conversations about food, physical activity, healthy living and cancer prevention.

Through cycling, storytelling, gastronomy, public talks and community events, the expedition aims to promote cancer prevention awareness and raise funds in aid of the World Cancer Research Fund.

This is a journey in memory of his mum, whom he lost to cancer, and a journey of adventure, community and hope. One deeply personal story, carried across Europe, to help inspire a future without cancer.

Her name was Efi

Agis with his mum.

She was sixteen years old when she had me. Her family told her to choose: give the baby up, or leave the house.

She chose to leave.

She chose me.

My mum loved to cook. She was a wonderful cook.

She had an old notebook, that grand mum had given her, a leather-covered notebook, filled with recipes in grand mum’s own handwriting. Every day she would take it out of the cupboard and cook for the family.

Coming home from school, we were always welcomed by the smell of her cooking.

That smell was home. That smell was mum.

The last time I spoke to my mum, she answered the phone and said: ‘My sweet boy, how much I craved to hear your voice again.’

Not long after, I lost her to cancer.

She was sixty six years old – far too young.

A Moving Campaign

For cancer prevention, built around three content themes.

Life on the road across 41 countries.

From remote landscapes to capital cities, from long climbs to difficult weather, this is a story of endurance, resilience, uncertainty, and discovery, and the every day reality of cycling across a continent.

Food is memory, culture, and connection.

Talking About Cancer Prevention

Cancer prevention is one of the central messages of this expedition.

As Agis cycles across Europe, he is sharing evidence-based information from the World Cancer Research Fund about how everyday choices can help reduce the risk of cancer.

These recommendations focus on the areas of life we return to every day: what we eat, how active we are, our body weight, alcohol, breastfeeding, and the choices we make after a cancer diagnosis.

They are not about perfection. They are about awareness, small steps, and building healthier lives over time.

Across this journey, from city streets and village kitchens to cycling communities and local events, these recommendations help guide the conversations Agis hopes to have along the road.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cycling Across Europe for a Future Without Cancer?

Cycling Across Europe for a Future Without Cancer is a long-distance cycling expedition across 41 European countries, beginning in London in June 2026.

Over 20 plus months, Agis Apostolopoulos will cycle approximately 23,000 kilometres, documenting stories of food, culture, community, active living, and cancer prevention awareness.

Why are you doing this journey?

I am doing this journey in memory of my mum, who I lost to cancer.

She was a wonderful cook, a strong woman, and the person who chose me when she was asked to give me up or leave home. This expedition is my way of carrying her memory forward and helping more people access life-saving information around cancer prevention.

Is this a charity fundraiser?

The journey supports fundraising in aid of the World Cancer Research Fund.

Alongside this, I am also raising funds to cover the core costs of the expedition itself, including safety equipment, bike maintenance, food, basic accommodation, filming, photography, and production.

Where does my donation go?

Donations made through the expedition GoFundMe help fund the core costs of the journey, including equipment, daily road costs, repairs, insurance, content production, and the practical essentials needed to keep the expedition moving.

Fundraising in aid of the World Cancer Research Fund will be handled separately and clearly, so supporters can see the difference between supporting the expedition and donating directly to the charity.

Are you fundraising for the World Cancer Research Fund?

Yes. The expedition is raising funds in aid of the World Cancer Research Fund.

Along the route, I will share evidence-based information on cancer prevention, including the role of diet, nutrition, body weight, and physical activity, using resources and guidance from the World Cancer Research Fund where appropriate.

The journey itself is independently organised by Agis Apostolopoulos, and funds raised for expedition costs are handled separately from donations made in aid of the World Cancer Research Fund.

When does the journey start?

The expedition is planned to begin in London in June 2026.

How long will the journey take?

The journey is expected to take around 20 plus months.

What will happen along the route?

Each week, I hope to arrive in a new town or village, meet local people, cook together, share stories, and talk about food, health, culture, and everyday lifestyle choices.

In capital cities, I will meet local cycling communities for group rides and events that promote active living and raise awareness around cancer prevention.

How many countries will you visit?

The route is planned to pass through 41 European countries, beginning and ending in London.

Can local people take part?

Yes. Local people can take part by cooking together, sharing recipes, telling stories, joining community rides, hosting conversations, or helping connect the journey with local cycling, food, and health communities.

Can people join you for part of the ride?

Yes. In many capital cities and local communities, I hope to organise group rides and community events. Details will be shared as the journey develops.

How can brands or organisations support the expedition?

Brands and organisations can support the expedition through sponsorship, equipment support, in-kind donations, media amplification, accommodation support, community introductions, or co-created content.

I am particularly interested in working with organisations connected to cycling, outdoor adventure, food, travel, health, wellbeing, storytelling, and social impact.
